There are some people who will never rent out their RV. And that's fine.

If you're a full-timer, your RV has a name and is part of the family, it can seem crazy - insane even to let your "Betty" get into the hands of renters who aren't familiar with her.

However, there is another group of people who can seriously benefit from renting out their RV.

Here's when renting your RV can make sense:

If you're considering the RV Lifestyle and are 2-5 years out from retirement, getting an RV and renting it out can be the perfect way to dip your toes in.

Because you're still working, you probably will only be using your rig once or twice a month (and definitely not during the week), that means the rest of the time it can be up on a rental site and making you money!

You can also use renting to get extremely familiar with all the systems (electrical, plumbing, mechanical) on your RV before you do a multi-week trip or go full-time.

Renting it when it's not in use and just sitting in your driveway will also help you cover some of (if not all of) the payments.

This is also a good way of getting into a slightly used RV for very little cost. If you want, after renting out your unit over a couple of years you can then trade it in towards your dream RV when you're ready to go full-time.

Even better is to apply any additional revenue from the rental towards the balance on your loan. This should help you end up with positive equity towards your trade-in. Which is almost unheard of with RV purchases.
